You know what happened; we all know what happened: some marketing genius saw some research which showed that 90% of all light meter sales were to men, and figured that he could dramatically boost sales if he could get women to buy them as well. So what should we do to make it appeal to women? Make it in pink!
Seriously, this thing was made in pink (boys got black) and marketed directly to women, because why would women want a black light meter? Don't believe me? Click on the mini-article from Modern Photography Magazine (Dec 1957) on the left. I don't make this stuff up.
Honestly, the pink color is the only reason to buy this thing.
