Compilation Albums
Listed Alphabetically. These are albums that (usually) anthologize Barry's music. Most of them are made up entirely or substantially of Barry's original music (there are a few that may have only one or two songs). Due to the number of duplications in Barry's popular works, I have added track listings to help determine whether a CD has music one may not have on another disc.

The Best of James Bond 30th Anniversary Limited Edition (2 CD's)
1992
CD: EMI 7-98560-2
This EMI release came out as one and two-disc sets. Disc 1 is just the title themes from the Bond movies. Disc 2, however, is gold. A few of the pieces are from the British issue of strong>Goldfinger that didn't make it on the US version, and there are three radio commercials. But then there's the great Thunderball Suite, which includes cues that didn't make it onto the soundtrack album, two versions of what was supposed to be Thunderball's title song, Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (which makes the rest of the soundtrack more understandable), a lounge-lizard version of Goldfinger by Anthony Newley, and an alternate version of You Only Live Twice, with a completely different lyric and a vocal by Julie Rogers. It's an absolute must for Bond-music fans, and good fun.

The Concert John Barry
LP Polydor 2383-156 - UK
This album features a concert-style recording of Barry conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Erich Gruenberg led
the orchestra and was soloist on Mary Queen of Scots. Similar to Moviola,
this LP gives a taste of what it must have been like to see Barry conducting in 1972 and 1973. It contains a version of James Bond Theme that sounds like the versions Barry used in the 1980's—an arrangement
which was later used by Erich Kunzel on his Bond and Beyond CD (but without the annoying sound effects that was added to Kunzel's version).

The Hits & The Misses (1998)
CD: Play It Again PLAY 007
Back in the late 50's and the early 60's, Barry was still into the pop music era of his career, and was an arranger/ conductor/accompaniest for EMI. This is a generous 2-CD collection of 50 songs that Barry arranged, conducted, or otherwise had his hand in during that time. There are only a few of Barry's own songs on this set, but the rest make quite a Who's Who of pop music at the time, including songs by Lionel Bart, Trevor Peacock, Nino Rota, Burt Bacharach, Mancini & Mercer, Rodgers & Hart, Irving Berlin, and Bricusse & Newley. Not the same old stuff.

1995
CD: EMI 7243 8 35046 2 6
The last of the EMI Years series concludes Barry's pop work and includes some of his early, esoteric film music. David Toop's liner notes are well worth reading, and contain one of Barry's rare comments about the controversial James Bond Theme. Somewhere in Time: the Film Music of John Barry Vol. 1
2015
CD: BSX CD 9106
At first glance it looks like a reasonable collection of later movie themes, but they threw in two Howard the Duck tracks. The performer listing is likewise a bit surprising: Tracks 1, 5, and 15 are piano; track 12 is the White Star Chamber Orchestra, Track 16 is the BSX Orchestra, Track 8 (High Road to China) is John Barry Orchestra, and the rest are the Meridian Studio Ensemble. It's a serious anthology.
