Now they call it Synergy. I don't know what they called it back then. Daystrom owned both Heathkit and Weston; so when they acquired the Mitchell Fotoval enlarging meter, they sold it through both divisions. Heathkit sold it as a kit that could assembled at home; Weston sold it already assembled and tested (but at a premium). Otherwise it's the same machine.
An interesting factoid: the Fotoval used a special test negative for calibration and it came with the machine. If you lost it or wanted another one, you had to call Weston (or Heath) and give them the serial number of your unit before they'd sell you a new one. Of course you could make your own, but what fun is that? |
