Camera Advertsements: Polaroid Land Camera - 1949
Polaroid ad

The original Polaroid Land camera, named after its inventor, Dr. Edwin Land. The camera came out in 1947, so this is one of the early ads for it.

Polaroid managed to keep the instant picture market pretty much to itself for the next half-century. Kodak competed but was literally knocked out of the market when they lost key patent battles in the 80s. It wasn't until digital cameras took hold in the late 90s that the Polaroid system became obsolete.

Polaroid is still around, though they've been knocked around and haven't successfully realigned their brand with a special technology the way they had in the past. I think they lost their way when the legendary, visionary Dr. Land died.

I wonder how many claims they get on their lifetime guarantee these days.
