Railroad watches appeared around the turn of the century, and came about as a general standard of quality for use by railroad employees (especially conductors and engineers) who needed an accurate watch to ensure their safety. The standards varied, but cosmetically it included a white face with black, bold, arabic numerals and big hands, one minute outer chapter markings.
This "railroad" watch just mimics that style, translated to a wristwatch. It's clean and easy to read.
