Seiko 7F39 wristwatch

Seiko 7F39 wristwatchThis was a gift from my mother to my father on his birthday or Christmas one year; I don't recall which or when, but it was around 1979 or 80. My mother was hurt and irritated by the fact that my father probably wore it once, maybe twice in his life. As I mentioned elsewhere, my father worked a lot with his hands and his watches took a lot of knocks. A couple of nice watches he had that he did wear a lot had their crystals replaced and were repaired several times.

This was just too nice a watch to wear every day, and he almost never head reason to dress up for an occasion. So now I have it, in its clamshell case, in its box, with the instruction booklet, and the watch is pristine. I will wear it, but for occasions where I have to wear a suit.

This is a smaller, thinner watch which I like. Used to be a slim watch was a mark of quality and craftsmanship. These days the fashion is for big, clunky things the size of bread plates. But I will admit that where the unisex size falls apart is here, where you have three sub-dials. You have to have sharp eyesight to actually use the day, date and calendar dials.
