In the early 70s there was character watch fad for political figures, and it began with this one, from The Dirty Time Company. There's an article about it here.

They had a shop on Brookhurst St. in Anaheim, and this was on the giant clock face outside that advertised the store. I went in a couple times and drooled over their watches. But they were pricey and I was a kid and couldn't afford them. They made a variety of character watches, but this was by far the most famous and common.
