Unknown-make tambour clock

Unknown-make tambour clockI like art deco styling, though I'm more partial to the earlier versions from the 1920s than the chunky moderne that took over in the 30s. But still. i saw this at an antique mall and bought it because I thought it looked good. It does, though on closer inspection it really needs to be refinished. Unfortunately, of course, it doesn't run.

This one has a german strike and chime moment. It's too complicated for my skill level, and my father hates working on them (plus his success record isn't great, so that discourages him). I think he said he had this going several times but it won't keep going for long. So now it's just a piece of art on one of my bookshelves.

I tend to think this is British, but I could be mistaken. I see this style of clock often in British television shows—the squat tambour shape, the art-deco numbers on a metal band, with the inner dial being a wood face that matches the case. Clegg had something like it on his mantle in The Last of the Summer Wine.

Acquired: 2015, from an antique mall ($30)

Current condition: case needs refinishing; won't run.
